Peaky Blinders season 6 photos: Cillian Murphy spotted filming huge Tommy Shelby confrontation as he reunites with Paul Anderson
Filming for the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders has been well underway in recent weeks.
And donning a formal three-piece suit and white scarf, Cillian Murphy effortlessly transformed into Tommy Shelby to shoot further scenes in Liverpool on Thursday.
Looking every inch the suave gangster, the 44-year-old was joined by his co-star Paul Anderson as they made their way to the historic St George’s Hall.
Packy Lee, who plays Johnny Dogs, was also on set of the popular period drama.
Scenes depicting a tense confrontation between anti-Fascism protesters and police were filmed later in the day on the streets of Liverpool.
The dramatic scenes are in response to fascist leader Oswald Mosley, played by Sam Claflin – who made his debut in season five.
Sam’s character is based on the real historical figure who became leader of the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s.
Cillian is back to lead the cast as the Peaky Blinders gang leader, who are returning to the unmistakable streets of post-war Birmingham on set.
Peaky Blinders’ sixth instalment will be its last, with the show coming to a close after first launching in 2013.
Creator Steven Knight recently confirmed that Peaky Blinders will come to a close with a movie after the final season airs.
He wrote in a recent statement: ‘Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.
‘We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it. While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.’
A release date for season six is yet to be confirmed, but Finn Cole, who stars as Michael Gray on the series, recently suggested that Peaky Blinders could be back on our screens by the end of 2021.
Peaky Blinders seasons one to five are available to watch via catch up on Netflix and BBC iPlayer.
