Piers Morgan has branded Suits star Patrick J Adams a ‘jumped-up little twerp’ after he defended his friend and former co-star Meghan Markle.

The Mike Ross actor, who played Meghan’s on-screen husband in the series, posted a scathing takedown of the royal family ahead of the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Referencing Patrick’s use of the word ‘obscene’, the Good Morning Britain host responded: ‘Actually, what’s ‘OBSCENE’ is your friend trashing her husband’s family on global TV as the Queen’s 99-yr-old husband lies in hospital. How dare you attack our Royal Family like this, you jumped-up little twerp.’

The 55-year-old added: ‘Meghan Markle’s showbiz mates who flew over and grovelled up to the Royals at her wedding now publicly trashing the Monarchy – and suggesting it be abolished. Disgusting.’

Patrick, 39, began his lengthy statement by saying: ‘Meghan Markle and I spent the better part of a decade working together on Suits.

‘From day one she was an enthusiastic, kind, cooperative, giving, joyful and supportive member of our television family. She remained that person and colleague as fame, prestige and power accrued.’

He added: ‘She fell in love, moved to a new country, became a household name across the entire globe and began the difficult work of trying to find her place in a family dynamic that can at best be described as complicated and at worst, seemingly archaic and toxic.’

‘It’s OBSCENE that the Royal Family, who’s newest member is currently GROWING INSIDE OF HER, is promoting and amplifying accusations of “bullying” against a woman who herself was basically forced to flea the UK in order protect her family and her own mental health,’ Patrick, who starred alongside Meghan for eight seasons of Suits, continued.

‘IMO, this newest chapter and it’s timing is just another stunning example of the shamelessness of a institution that has outlived its relevance, is way overdrawn on credibility and apparently bankrupt of decency.’

He finished the string of tweets by saying: ‘Find someone else to admonish, berate and torment. My friend Meghan is way out of your league.’

Teaser clips of Meghan and Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah have been released, with one showing the Duchess branding the royal family ‘the firm’ and claiming they were ‘perpetuating falsehoods about us’.

Following the release of the teaser clips, Meghan was accused of ‘bullying’ royal staff, with a report claiming she humiliated staff, driving out two of her personal assistants and undermining the confidence of a third.

A spokesperson for Meghan and Harry said following the claims: ‘The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself.’

Buckingham Palace has said it is ‘very concerned’ about the allegations.

A spokesperson said: ‘Accordingly our HR team will look into the circumstances outlined in the article. Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the Household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned

‘The Royal Household has had a Dignity at Work policy in place for a number of years and does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace.’
