Watch Mason Mount score brilliant curling effort as Chelsea send Liverpool to record fifth successive home defeat

MASON MOUNT continued his remarkable form on the road with his fifth Premier League away goal of the season โ€“ out of five.

The Chelsea midfielder, 22, put his side in front three minutes before half-time as the Blues beat Liverpool at Anfield.

The defeat was the fifth in a row at home for Liverpool โ€“ their worst run EVER at Anfield.

Cesar Azpilicueta cushioned a header into Nโ€™Golo Kante at the base of the Chelsea midfield.

And the Frenchman immediately got his head up and sprayed a long pass over the top of the Reds defence for Mount to race on to.

Fabinho came across as Trent Alexander-Arnold tried to get back, but the man cut inside from the left channel across the edge of the area.

And Mount made no mistake with the finish from 18 yards, curling a fine effort low into the far corner while giving Alisson no chance.

Incredibly, it still means 100 per cent of his goals in the league this term have come on Chelseaโ€™s travels โ€“ adding to his finishes at West Brom, Fulham, Sheffield United and Southampton.

And it piled more misery on Liverpool, who came into the crunch clash losing their last four Premier League games at Anfield and knowing another defeat would put a serious dent in their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Earlier in the first half, Jurgen Kloppโ€™s men survived a marginal VAR offside call after Timo Werner beat Alisson to a ball over the top.

In the Sky Sports studio, former Blues left-back Ashley Cole was full of praise for the goalscorer.

He said: โ€œYou know what heโ€™s going to do but itโ€™s tough to stop at times. Great finish.

โ€œThis is what Mason brings you โ€“ willingness and determination to run beyond players.โ€

The Chelsea legend added at full-time: โ€œNext season he is definitely pushing for the captaincy.

โ€œFor me is the best player at Chelsea and the first name on the team sheet.โ€

But fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp was critical of the Liverpool defending.

He added: โ€œOf course itโ€™s a fantastic piece of play. Once they give you that invitation, youโ€™ve got to take it.

โ€œBut when youโ€™ve got the two against one, you have to do your best to show him down the line.

โ€œEven if he comes inside, Trent Alexander-Arnold has got to get there quicker and block it. Heโ€™s got to move his feet quicker, heโ€™s got to block the ball. Trent doesnโ€™t do enough for me.

โ€œBut I donโ€™t want to take anything away from what is a brilliant goal, theyโ€™ve executed it.โ€
