IMPACT Wrestling star Matt Cardona has recalled the moment The Undertaker shouted at him for using his phone backstage.

The former WWE superstar – who enjoyed a long spell in Vince McMahon’s company until his exit in April last year – has opened up about the locker room leader stepping in what he was caught not focusing on the match.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I once got in trouble by The Undertaker for being on my cell phone backstage at a show whereas now, it’s encouraged to be on your phone – tweet, post, I don’t even know all the apps you can do!

‘That’s just evolution and that’s how it should be. And you know, The Undertaker was right back then – I should have been watching the match, I should have been focused. It’s crazy how times change!’

Cardona – who has also revealed on the True Long Island Story podcast that he and Brian Myers had to apologise to Undertaker, Triple H and Vladimir Kozlov over the incident – admitted the Dead Man was right to tell him off, although he’s glad things have changed.

He added: ‘You could never take your cell phone out and take a picture with someone! They’d call you a mark and kick you out of the locker room!

‘You know how many pictures I wish I would have took, that I don’t have, of moments or guys – some people who have passed on and I don’t have any pictures? Where now, with an iPhone you can – whatever. It’s encouraged, post on social media, it’ll live forever.’

And the incident hasn’t marred Cardona’s feelings about Undertaker himself, as he revealed how much the Phenom helped him over the years, particularly during his time in the Edgeheads with Myers and Edge himself.

‘If Undertaker’s gonna yell at me for being on a cell phone – OK,’ he laughed. ‘But he also at the same time went out of his way to help Brian Myers and I so much, especially because we were doing stuff with Edge.

‘I even wrestled The Undertaker one-on-one and I remember he was asking me what I wanted to do and then afterwards sat down with me to give me pointers and what I could have done different, what I did good.

‘Undertaker is somebody who’s always looking to give back to the business. All these years later, we’re still talking about The Undertaker, he’s still going. I respect the hell out of The Undertaker. You’ve gotta listen to what he has to say.’

And as a lifelong fan of the business, Cardona still has to pinch himself when he recalls getting to step in the ring with such an iconic figure.

He beamed: ‘I’ll never forget wrestling The Undertaker, and I’m standing in the ring and he’s coming out. The fire was going off in the entrance, I’m like, “What is going on here? I’m wrestling The Undertaker on SmackDown in the main event!”

‘It was wild. Some of those things are cool because at the end of the day, I am a fan at heart.’
