Good Morning Britain’s Alex Beresford has clashed with Piers Morgan over his opinions on Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s upcoming interview with Oprah Winfrey has already caused waves before it has aired, after teasers saw Meghan accuses the Royal family of ‘perpetuating falsehoods’ against her and Harry.

Piers Morgan has been at the forefront of the criticism of Meghan, calling her and Harry’s interview ‘crass’ and calling the allegations of bullying against the Duchess ‘devastating’.

In his latest tweets, the 55-year-old shared a picture of Meghan next to one of American socialite Wallis Simpson, whose marriage to former British Edward VIII led to his abdication.

Piers tweeted: ‘I think it’s maybe time to ban our Princes from marrying American women.’

However, his colleague Alex Beresford believed that Piers should lay off Meghan, seeing as she expecting her second child with Prince Harry.

The weatherman tweeted: ‘You ever stop and think maybe you should give this woman carrying a baby a break?’

Piers fired back: ‘You mean like she’s giving a 94yr-old woman a break as her husband lies in hospital?’, referring to Prince Philip’s recent hospitalisation.

Alex, 40, then referred to the allegations against Prince Andrew, writing: ‘I reckon Andrew has given her a harder time…but yeah let’s get back to Meghan…’

Prince Andrew has denied allegations that Virginia Roberts Guiffre was paid by Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with the royal when she was 17; while he stepped down from royal duties, Buckingham Palace never ordered an investigation into the allegations.

Piers insisted he had ‘addressed’ Andrew several times during the week, but added: ‘But Meghan’s chosen this weekend to trash her husband’s family on global TV, as Philip lies in hospital. You can support that all you wish, I think it’s shameful.’

Alex added: ‘So sorry your Andrew tweets must be buried under all the Meghan ones! And it’s Harry and Meghan…’

Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah has been pre-recorded, and was filmed before Philip’s hospitalisation.

Alex also liked a tweet from a GMB viewer hitting out at Piers, which read: ‘How can you have such a problem with this alleged bullying, and apparently no problem with yer mate Ant “f*** COVID-19” Middleton openly admitting he screamed at members of the production crew??’

Piers and Alex have previously clashed on air about whether the press coverage and criticism of Meghan has been racist.

While Alex did share clips which called out the timing of the Palace’s investigation into claims Meghan Markle bullied staff, he also tweeted: ‘Regardless of what side you’re on, this is incredibly sad to see a family airing their dirty laundry in front of the globe and how we are all becoming so engrossed in it. Exhausted!!’

Meghan and Harry’s high-profile interview with Oprah is set to air on Sunday night in the States, and will air on ITV on Monday night.

In a teaser for the chat, former Suits star Meghan says: ‘I don’t know how they could expect that after all of this time, we would still just be silent if there is an active role that the firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us.

‘And if that comes with risk of losing things, I mean there’s a lot that’s been lost already.’

The interview airs this Monday at 8pm on ITV.
