Gwyneth Paltrow revealed husband Brad Falchuk lost his sense of taste and smell for nine months, amid his battle with coronavirus.

The Iron Man actress and her partner have both been affected by lingering symptoms, something many refer to as ‘long Covid-19’ – where symptoms typically last weeks or months after the initial infection has gone.

Discussing the illness, the 48-year-old told People magazine: ‘He actually only got his taste and smell back in January, so nine months after he lost it.

‘But there’s so many people who are going through it and we’re getting better all the time.’

On her own symptoms, the mum-of-two said she still has ‘a bit of fatigue and brain fog’.

Despite their tough experiences with the condition, Gwyneth was able to set up a Covid-19 safe trip to celebrate Brad’ 50th birthday recently.

‘We actually were able to go skiing in Wyoming with a few friends on a Covid safe trip and it was amazing,’ she added to the publication. ‘It was so nice to celebrate him. He’s such a special, amazing man.’

Although long Covid-19 is not yet a clinically defined illness, symptoms of it have been reported to include tiredness, cognitive problems, breathlessness, aches and pains.

Gwyneth previously discussed her own symptoms on her Goop blog, stating she is embarking on a long-term healing plan.

However, Dr Ravi Tomar, a GP partner at Portland Medical in Croydon, previously told Metro.co.uk: ‘It is important to note that this is yet to be ratified into a formal diagnosis and given limited research is based mainly on anecdotal case report evidence.

‘Some evidence suggests long Covid may actually be a mix of other known diagnoses such as post-viral fatigue syndrome, and post-intensive care syndrome among others.’

The Hollywood legend was also called out for recommending certain things and diets to ‘heal’ symptoms.

Professor Stephen Powis, national medical director for NHS England, warned that ‘serious science’ should be applied and celebrities and influencers have a responsibility for what they promote.

‘In the last few days I see Gwyneth Paltrow is unfortunately suffering from the effects of Covid,’ he said last month.

‘We wish her well, but some of the solutions she’s recommending are really not the solutions we’d recommend in the NHS.

‘We need to take long Covid seriously and apply serious science.

‘All influencers who use social media have a duty of responsibility and a duty of care around that.’
