Nicolas Cage has got married for the fifth time in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas.

Just under two years after he tied the knot with Erika Kookie in Sin City, the Face/Off actor married girlfriend of one year Riko Shibata in a ‘very small and intimate wedding’ at the Wynn Hotel.

Cage, 57, told People in a statement: ‘It’s true, and we are very happy.’

The wedding was held on February 16 to honour the birthday of the groom’s late father’, according to Cage’s rep.

The bride wore a handmade Japanese Bridal Kimono that required three layers, while her groom wore a Tom Ford tuxedo.

Shibata, 26, walked down the aisle to her favourite song, Winter Song by Kiroro, and during the ceremony, the couple exchanged both traditional Catholic and Shinto vows, with haiku and poetry from Walt Whitman also being read.

The ceremony in the hotel’s private courtyard, called Primrose Court, was held against a backdrop of flowers, candles and fairy lights.

While the Vegas wedding was intimate, close friends and family were in attendance, as Cage’s rep said: ‘After the wedding, the happy couple was joined for a small celebration attended by Nicolas’ ex-wife, Alice (who he remains very good friends with) and their son Kal.’

According to the Clark County Clerk’s office, the Cages applied for their marriage license a month earlier on January 10, and Ms Shibata has now taken the surname of her husband.

Cage met Riko, who is from Kyoto, in Shiga, Japan, over a year ago, shortly after the dissolution of his fourth marriage.

They were pictured together for the first time in February 2020 while visiting Cage’s nine-foot pyramid-shaped tomb, which he plans to be buried in, at a New Orleans cemetery.

After being pictured on a number of dates together, Cage confirmed their engagement while speaking on his brother Marc Coppola’s radio show in August.

The Con-Air star said: ‘She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven’t seen her for six months.

‘We’re really happy together and we’re really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said, ”Look, I wanna marry you” and we got engaged on FaceTime.’

This is the first marriage for Riko who, at 26, is four years older than Cage’s eldest son Weston, 30, who he shares with ex Christina Fulton.

Cage has been married four times previously; he was first married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 until 2001, before marrying Lisa Marie Presley in 2002 and divorcing two years later.

He married Alice Kim in 2004 and they welcomed son Kal-El in 2005, but they split in 2016.

In March 2019, the Leaving Las Vegas star married Erika Koike in Sin City, but filed for annulment four days later, claiming in court documents that he ‘lacked understanding of his actions in marrying [Koike] to the extent that he was incapable of agreeing to the marriage’.

Cage has a number of movies coming out this year, including The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which he plays himself.

He is also set to play Tiger King star Joe Exotic in an upcoming series.
