RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13: Queens ranked from meh to yaaas after Snatch Game

Drag Race Rankings
Who came out on top in this year’s Snatch Game? (Picture:VH1)

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13’s Snatch Game has finally arrived and it couldn’t have come sooner!

After a double save and a week off, the show needed to start picking up the pace, and thankfully the celebrity impersonation challenge is a great way to get viewers back into the swing of things.

As can be expected, this year’s offerings were either complete hits, or total duds, with no one completely in the middle. Even with nine queens to go, the potential winners are really beginning to rise up… it’s just a case of getting there.

Throw in a fascinating fascinators runway, and were officially invested again.

Here’s how we thought the queens did, from top to bottom.

**Note: Rankings do not take into account events of Untucked as it’s currently unavailable in the UK.**

Gottmik

Gottmik continues to be a force (Picture: VH1)

Gottmik’s Paris Hilton was the best thing about Snatch Game and probably kept the rest of the queens afloat, if we’re honest.

Getting the character down, keeping Ru laughing, and even interacting with Raven and her failed attempt at playing the heiress was gold.

That punk rock look was everything, because she truly knows how to present herself on the runway.

This was her deserved win, and we loved it.

Symone

Symone deserved more than safe (Picture: VH1)

We’re not going to lie, we definitely feared the worst when Symone said she was playing Harriet Tubman.

For a historical icon that important, it could have gone really wrong and been disrespectful… but we should know better than to ever underestimate Symone.

We really enjoyed her no-nonsense version of Harriet, including her nod to being removed from the $50 bill by stamping herself on a $100 bill instead.

We weren’t in love with her runway look, but the message reveal was powerful as hell and really knocked you sideways – with her ‘hands up’ presentation walk just adding to it.

This girl knows how to focus on the details and have them pack a punch. We continue to be obsessed.

Denali

Denali’s Jonathan Van Ness was super cute (Picture: VH1)

Denali brought pure cuteness to the game this week, whether it be in the confessionals, the challenge or the runway.

Her Jonathan Van Ness stood out by her knowledge of the character and the near constant hair flicking and hair styling products, even if it wasn’t a loud and lairy part like some of the others.

Her diner look with a coffee fascinator as she roller skated down the runway was adorably playful (what’s with the sudden hate against costumey from the judges?!)

We loved it and we love her.

Kandy Muse

RuPaul's Drag Race KANDY MUSE
Kandy played it safe this week after a rough brush with elimination (Picture: VH1)

After her frankly traumatic ‘sashay but don’t leave’ moment in the previous episode, we cannot blame Kandy for wanting to tone it down a week.

As Patrick Starrr, she could play to her strengths and be loud and bolshy in a fabulous costume – essentially, she played herself and stayed strong by not overpowering those around her.

Her black and white runway ruffled look was not something we hadn’t seen from her before, but it was pretty enough and it allowed her to get her bearings.

Rosé

RuPaul's Drag Race season 13 - ROSE
Rose brought her heritage to the stage this week as Mary Queen Of Scots (Picture: VH1)

Rosé brought her Scottish heritage to the show this week, and if trolls hadn’t forced UK’s Lawrence Chaney off social media, we’re sure she would’ve been proud.

Mary Queen Of Scots was probably not the best character choice but she landed some laughs. This is a classic example of someone trying to be too smart for their own good.

Her rose inspired runway was also cute – but again with the ruffles. We’re glad Michelle called it out so maybe she’ll tone it down. (Then maybe the judges can focus their attention of getting Tina out of red and yellow.)

Tina Burner

Tina showed her softer side this week and it worked for her (Picture: VH1)

Tina Burner was a weaker performer this week, with her Richard Simmons impersonation being OK but not great. She landed as many laughs as she did flatlines though, so she was definitely safe.

Her horse inspired runway look was cute and got the job done, but we kind of wanted more from her at this point.

She was a solid safe, but we want her to turn it up a bit now.

Utica Queen

DRAG RACE 13- UTICAH
Utica didn’t shine for us this week (Picture: VH1)

We don’t care what anyone said, the squirrel afro was hilarious. Weird yes, but also hilarious.

Playing a kooky version of Bob Ross was no mean feat, and would have probably come across better if it was in her own show, rather than in a Snatch Game setting. But still we didn’t think it was as bad as the others were making out.

Her picnic basket runway look was also cute but classically her – still a little weird, always a little fabulous. We thought that would have saved her compared to the other duds.

She brought it in that lip sync though, to the surprise of possibly everyone. Utica brought the funny and the sexy and completely stole the stage to the point Elliott didn’t know where to go. That’s how to fight for your place.

We can’t help but feel that Ru doesn’t ‘get’ Utica’s brand and comedy style though, and that may be a problem going forward.

Olivia Lux

RuPaul's Drag Race season 13 OLIVIA LUX
Olivia didn’t perform her strongest as Tabitha Brown (Picture: VH1)

Olivia was given so many opportunities this week and she missed them all – and she was saved by the skin of her teeth.

Hardly anyone in the work room knew who Tabitha Brown was, and Ru literally handed her a ‘bit’ for the vegan to be secretly saving food. Even if she salivated over Porkchop on the guest panel that could have been funny.

She was saved somewhat by her stunning mad scientist look – but even that to us wasn’t as high a standard as to what she does normally.

It wasn’t a strong week for Olivia, but her past weeks precede her so this could be chalked up to a one off. Time will tell.

Elliott (with two Ts)

RuPaul's Drag Race season 13 - Elliott
It was time for Elliott to say goodbye (Picture: VH1)

Unfortunately, Elliott’s time was up in the competition and she had to sashay away, and it was probably the right decision.

Whether it was the quarantine they’ve been forced into or the competition taking its toll, it felt like Elliott was losing steam.

Putting herself into the dangerous role of Rue McClanahan was a ballsy move and it unfortunately didn’t pay off, and her flamingo runway look just didn’t read at all. Until Michelle figured it out, we thought it was just a weird outfit choice rather than an animal.

She had a pretty good run, and should be proud of what she achieved, but it was probably time for her to go.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 airs Fridays on VH1 in the US, and Saturdays on Netflix in the UK.
