Piers Morgan shares details of ‘best conversation’ with Simon Cowell during reunion meet-up
Piers Morgan reveals his chat with Simon Cowell during their long walk last week was ‘surprisingly profound’.
The former Britain’s Got Talent co-stars were pictured reuniting for a stroll near their west London homes last Tuesday.
It was the first time they had been pictured together in years and Piers, 55, says they hit it off like they’d never been apart.
The Good Morning Britain host was invited on the walk by Simon’s partner Lauren Silverman, who sent a text on behalf of the TV mogul.
One of Piers’ biggest shocks when he saw Simon, 61, was ‘how skinny he [looked]’ after losing four stone.
During their two-hour walk, X Factor judge Simon opened up about his terrifying accident last year where he broke his back after falling off an electric scooter.
Writing in his Mail Online column, Piers recalled Simon explaining: ‘I knew immediately I was in serious trouble.
‘Never felt pain like it.’
Piers stated: ‘Doctors told him he was half an inch away from his spinal cord being fractured and leaving him paralysed.’
Simon then revealed: ‘It was terrible, but at least I quickly knew exactly what I was dealing with and would need to do in terms of rehab etc. I’d rather have gone through this than had Covid, which seems so unpredictable.
‘A great friend of mine was in a coma for several weeks with the virus and we thought we’d lose him. That was incredibly scary.
‘I knew I wasn’t going to die, though I did worry I may never walk again.’
Reflecting on their lengthy catch-up, Piers admitted: ‘Our chat was surprisingly profound. We talked about friendship, family, work, loyalty… and disloyalty; about people we’ve eliminated from our lives, for a variety of reasons, and people we now value even more.’
After returning to their separate homes in the Notting Hill area, Piers’ wife Celia Walden wondered: ‘That was a long walk. What on earth did you talk about?’
‘Everything,’ Piers replied. ‘That was the best conversation we’ve ever had.’
Piers and Simon have been friends for years, with the Good Morning Britain presenter starring on the first season of America’s Got Talent in 2006. He went on to sit on the BGT judging panel for four series.
