Oprah has reminded everyone just how much of a boss interviewer she is following her TV special with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which aired in the US overnight – with fans now calling for the talk show queen to interview Britney Spears next.

In the early hours of the morning in the UK, Harry and Meghan’s sit down chat with Oprah was aired, which was pre-recorded, in which the pair shared many a revelation from their time in the Royal Family to their move to the US after stepping down from senior royal duties.

During the two-hour special which aired on CBS – and which will air on ITV here tonight – Harry and Meghan spoke about their relationship with the Royal Family after moving to California, while the former Suits actress also opened up on her mental health during her time in the UK, as well as claiming the potential skin colour of the pair’s son Archie was discussed before he was born.

The couple also looked ahead to a more hopeful future, revealing they are due to welcome a baby girl later this year and discussing the possibility of time being a great healer.

While the world is feverishly dissecting the interview and its revelations, one of the major takeaways from this is how Oprah’s interviewing technique is like no other.

With the interview airing on television with actual, not-skippable adverts in between, the TV stalwart managed to keep viewers enthralled.

What did we expect, though? Oprah cemented herself as the talk show hostess with the mostess with The Oprah Winfrey Show from 1986 to 2011, and was front and centre for some of the most infamous interviews of all time. Tom Cruise jumping on a couch anyone?

Overnight, many dubbed Oprah’s interview as a ‘masterclass in journalism’ with writer Nneka M. Okona saying on Twitter: ‘It’s Oprah’s follow up questions for me. A journalism interviewing masterclass.’

Washington Post’s Mark Berman noted: ‘Oprah has a very particular skill set as an interviewer, a style that isn’t too light and isn’t too heavy and isn’t too chatty and isn’t too curt, and I know “Oprah is good at being Oprah” isn’t a novel observation to make here but it’s still true!’

And Star Trek’s George Takei simply wrote: ‘Maybe they should just make Oprah queen and call it a day.’

The wider reaction to Oprah’s interview style was clear on social media this morning

And many now want Oprah to sit down with Britney Spears

Following the documentary Framing Britney Spears, which was a deep dive into the pop star’s conservatorship, punters now want the queen of interviewing to chat with Brit.

ITV has confirmed they will broadcast the two hour-special tonight, Monday, March 8.

ITV Managing Director Kevin Lygo said: ‘This interview is already a national talking point and ITV is pleased to be able to offer UK audiences the opportunity to see it.’

Sources close to the deal previously told Variety that the battle to broadcast the highly-anticipated interview with Harry and Meghan boiled down to ITV and Discovery in the UK. Had Discovery won the bid, Harry and Meghan’s interview would likely have aired on Discovery’s recently launched platform on Sky Q and Amazon Fire TV.

In the past, other episodes of Oprah’s interviews have been uploaded to the ’60 minutes’ YouTube channel within 24 hours of airing.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah airs in the UK tonight on ITV at 9pm.
