Alex Beresford applauded as Jason Manford, Clara Amfo react to Piers Morgan storming off Good Morning Britain
Alex Beresford has been cheered on after he called out Piers Morgan’s criticism of Meghan Markle, causing the presenter to storm off Good Morning Britain.
Tensions flared between Piers, 55, and Alex, 40, on Tuesday as they clashed over Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey at the weekend.
Alex told Piers: ‘[Meghan’s] entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her.’
Piers then got up and walked off set stating: ‘I’m done with this. Sorry. You can trash me mate but not on my own show. See you later, can’t do this.’
Social media was immediately flooded for the weatherman with Geordie Shore star Holly Hagan tweeting: ‘@alexberesfordTV take a bow shame on @piersmorgan the people have to listen to your views screamed at them daily. It’s blatant bullying.
‘Yet someone pulls you up and you spit your dummy out and walk away. Please do the world a favour and hand your resignation on the way out.’
Comedian Jason Manford cheered: ‘Best bit of telly for a while thanks to @alexberesfordTV ! #GMB. @piersmorgan even you’ve gotta admit the idea of someone asking a woman ‘what colour will your baby be?’ &that not be racist is ludicrous! there is literally no way you can ask that without sounding like a racist!’

Love Island star Amber Gill simply stated: ‘Good morning to @alexberesfordTV only.’
Former Celebrity Big Brother star Luisa Zissman commented: ‘Yas @alexberesfordTV please replace Piers he’s had his day, finally someone Has silenced him. Vindictive nastiness should not be hidden as “journalism” any longer.’
Towie star Mario Falcone tweeted: ‘Just seen the clip of Piers walking off set for being called out… finally! Can dish it out but cannot take it! Well done @alexberesfordTV , handled yourself very well x.’
BBC Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo weighed in: ‘To storm out of a studio live on TV because you don’t like what your mixed raced colleague is saying about your perverse and hateful obsession with a mixed race woman who ceased contact with you, then knowing that your job will absolutely remain in tact….must be nice.’
‘If this moment was staged as some people on here suggest, then more fool me but this display would still result in the same thing…he’ll be alright.’
Presenter Gemma Cairney replied to Clara’s comments: ‘Can you imagine if we had ever walked out of live broadcast each time we’ve felt upset by it.’
Piers later returned to the studio after an advert break and explained: ‘What we need to do Alex is talk to each other in a civilised manner given we work on the same show on the same team. You launching into a pretty personally derogatory monologue on one of your colleagues probably isn’t one of the best ways to go about it.
‘As much as I’d like to sit here taking abuse from you, that’s not going to happen.’
Alex explained that he wasn’t accusing Piers of racism but said he was ‘tired’ of finding ways to explain how racism exists.
The debate was in relation to Meghan’s claims that a senior member of the Royal family expressed their ‘concerns’ over ‘how dark’ her son Archie’s skin might be once he was born.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
