Dawn French leads tributes as Vicar of Dibley star Trevor Peacock dies aged 89
Dawn French has led tributes to Trevor Peacock, after the actor died.
The Vicar Of Dibley star – who played Jim Trott in the BBC comedy – died at the age of 89, his agent confirmed.
Following the sad news, famous faces have offered their condolences to the late comedy legend.
Taking to Twitter, Dawn shared a snap of the pair smiling widely from the Vicar of Dibley set.
Alongside the post, the Geraldine Granger actress simply wrote: ‘Night Trev. I love you.’
The BBC press office tweeted: ‘We’re saddened to hear of the death of actor Trevor Peacock.’
As the official Twitter account for TV channel Gold penned: ‘We are all saddened to learn that Trevor Peacock, who played Jim Trott so brilliantly in The Vicar of Dibley has passed away at the age of 89.
‘Our thoughts are with his family and friends.’
His beloved football club, Yeovil Town commented: ‘Rest in peace, Trevor Peacock. #YTFC.’
In a longer message on the club website, they shared: ‘All at Yeovil Town are saddened by the death of Trevor Peacock.
‘Trevor was well known across the country for his role in the BBC Comedy the Vicar of Dibley.
‘A valued member of the Glovers fan base, Trevor warmed the hearts of everybody he crossed paths with.
‘We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.’
George Rainsford recalled some of Trevor’s best performances, posting: ‘Ah man I loved Trevor Peacock. Remember him as Giles Corey in the @TheRSC’s #TheCrucible and scene-stealing with his line, “A fart on Thomas Putnam!”
‘Achieving both pathos and comedy in so few words. #RIPTrevorPeacock.’
Trevor’s agent confirmed the news of his death, sharing a statement on behalf of his family.
‘Trevor Peacock, actor, writer and song-writer, died aged 89 on the morning of March 8th from a dementia-related illness,’ it read.
The star boasted an impressive TV career, with his most notable role being Jim in The Vicar of Dibley, becoming notorious for his ‘no, no, no, no…. yes’ quotes.
He made his debut in the comedy’s very first episode, and was a staple of every episode.
Trevor made his last appearance in the Vicar of Dibley Comic Relief Special, in 2015.
As well as the sitcom, he had a number of other acting credits to his name, playing Alfie Moon’s pal Sid in EastEnders, and popping up in My Family and Jonathan Creek.
He also starred on the big screen, playing the dad of Father Christmas in Fred Claus in 2007, opposite Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti.
Trevor was diagnosed with dementia in 2009, and it was reported in 2017 that he had retired from acting when his condition advanced, and that he was living in a nursing home.
