The Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page has spoken out against an Alabama bill aimed at preventing transgender minors from receiving medications or treatments described as ‘deadly’.

March 2 saw a bill named the Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act pass Alabama’s Senate.

It is now awaiting consideration on the House floor, despite being widely criticized by LGBTQ+ activists.

The bill would make it a felony for medical professional to offer hormonal therapy, puberty blockers, and surgery options to transgender kids under the age of 19.

Juno star Page, who came out as trans in December, publicly condemned the bill on Twitter on Friday.

He wrote: ‘Efforts to criminalize trans kids are deadly and we need to fight back against Alabama’s HB1/SB10.

‘Trans kids’ lives depend on stopping this bill. Tell Alabama lawmakers to #ProtectTransKids #NoHB1 #NoSB10.’

The actor also shared a post highlighting the work being done by fellow transgender star Laverne Cox to condemn the bill.

The Orange is the New Black star, who is originally from Alabama, spoke out during an Instagram Live video.

The actress said that she had previously avoided commenting on the bill because it is ‘fundamentally dehumanising’.

She explained: ‘All of the ways in which conversations are happening around trans people and sports — specifically trans women in sports — are dehumanizing and objectifying.’

Elsewhere, Page recently thanked his fans for their support after he came out and the star shared links to Transanta (which delivers gifts to trans youth in need), and Trans Lifeline (a crisis hotline for trans people).

He wrote the message: ‘From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your love and support has been the greatest gift.’
