Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 will start with a single-player story mission

The next season of Fortnite is going to feature something Fortnite has never had before: a single-player story campaign.

If there’s one thing Fortnite is not known for it’s its storytelling, but it does have an ongoing plot and while it used to be something only a few hardcore fans paid attention to it’s become more and more prominent in recent seasons.

If there’s a second thing Fortnite is not known for it’s having a proper single-player mode. You play solo if you want, and many do, but there’s always other people running around as well – but not at the start of Season 6.

The new season will begin with a single-player experience called Zero Crisis Finale, which will offer some story context for the change, as you play through the end of Agent Jones’ mission that began back in December.

According to Epic Games the aftermath of Season 5 will ‘shape reality as we know it’, a reference to the fact that the Zero Point that’s powering the island is beginning to destabilise again and potentially risks the formation of a black hole similar to the one that ended Chapter 1.

Or in other words Epic are hinting at a new island, or at least a radically redesigned one. Although whether that’ll happen straight away in Season 6, or if this is just a build up to Chapter 3, remains to be seen.

Zero Crisis Finale seems to be a replacement for the usual end of season live event, such as the Galactus one that attract over 15 million concurrent players.

There will still be a community element if you want it though, with the option to watch the mission being played online during a global premiere event.

When does Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 6 start?

Season 6 of Fortnite Chapter 2 will begin on Tuesday, March 16. Epic Games never usually say what time it’ll start, because sometimes there can be unexpected problems making the switch over, but it’s usually fairly early in the morning.

It would certainly be surprising if it wasn’t available by the late afternoon, even if the whole Zero Crisis Finale business is an unusual feature.

Also, don’t forget to spend all your gold bars before the current season ends as they’ll be reset at the start of Season 6.
