KSI apologises for past use of transphobic slurs: ‘I didn’t know that was a bad word’
KSI has apologised for his past use of a transphobic slur, insisting he didn’t know any better.
The rapper and YouTuber tweeted asking if people think he’s transphobic, before apologising for his past actions.
‘Hold up, people actually think I’m transphobic?’ he asked.
In a now deleted tweet, he included the slur, adding: ‘Honestly didn’t even know they were slurs. I know now though. Mans educating himself haha.’
Removing the slur from his next tweet, he corrected himself to write: ‘My bad for saying transgender slurs. Honestly didn’t even know they were slurs. I know now though.’
The YouTuber – real name Olajide ‘JJ’ Olatunji – apologised after a fan called him out for misgendering someone in one of his videos with his YouTube group The Sidemen, and using a transphobic slur.
He responded, saying he didn’t misgender the person, and didn’t know the word he used was a slur.
JJ has a following of more than 12 million on YouTube, and is also known for his music career.
He has collaborated with the likes of Anne-Marie and Yungblud on songs, and released his debut album Dissimulation last year.
Recently, the star got suspended from YouTube for a week, due to a clip used in one of his ‘try not to laugh’ videos.
‘So, one of my videos — a “try not to laugh,” the Indian edition — had child endangerment,’ he explained. ‘I think that’s a new thing in the YouTube TOS [Terms of Service], but basically, I crossed that line […]
‘So I got banished for a week, but I’m back! I’m back, and I now know, no child can be endangered, okay!’
