Piers Morgan quits Good Morning Britain after 41,000 complain about Meghan Markle comments
Piers Morgan has quit Good Morning Britain after more than 41,000 people complained about his conduct surrounding Meghan Markle.
The TV host stepped down after Ofcom launched an investigation into the show, following his comments about ‘not believing Meghan’ when he claimed she was suicidal.
The statement read: ‘Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
‘ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.’
Ahead of the announcement, Piers simply tweeted a Gif of a ticking clock, but is yet to comment further.
Piers has been under fire since Monday’s episode where he condemned Meghan’s comments in her and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During the interview, Meghan claimed that a senior member of the Royal family ‘expressed concern’ over baby Archie’s skin colour while she was pregnant, and said that the pressure of being in the family left her suicidal.
Discussing the revelations, Piers said that he ‘didn’t believe a word that she said’.
His comments were rapidly complained about to Ofcom with a staggering number of complaints.
On Tuesday morning, Piers walked off set of Good Morning Britain after co-star Alex Beresford pulled him up on his conduct.
The weather reporter defended Harry and Meghan, and called Piers out for his continued condemnation of the Royal couple.
Turning to Piers, he then said: ‘I understand that you don’t like Meghan Markle you’ve made that so clear a number of times on this programme. I understand that you’ve got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle or had one and she cut you off.
‘She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to. Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don’t think she has but yet you continue to trash her.’
Piers later addressed the controversy but did not apologise, and stated: ‘I still have serious concerns about the veracity of a lot of what she said. But let me just state for the record my position on mental illness and on suicide.

‘Mental illness and suicide, these are clearly very serious things and should be taken extremely seriously and if somebody is feeling that way they should get the treatment and help that they need every time and if they belong to an institution like the Royal family and they go and seek that help, they should absolutely be given it.
‘It’s not for me to question whether she felt suicidal, I wasn’t in her mind and that’s for her to say.’
ITV boss Dame Carolyn McCall later spoke out out in favour of Meghan Markle, and said: ‘We are dealing with that as we speak’ and ‘I’m not making any comments on this’.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
