Rupert Grint ‘nearly killed riding a hoverboard’ after crash disaster

Rupert Grint saw himself as Ron Wheels-ley when he treated himself to a hoverboard — but it led to a brush with death.

The board was one of the luxury items the Harry Potter star — estimated to be worth £28million — splashed out on after he became a wealthy teen.

Rupert, whose ‘first car’ was an ice-cream van, said of his hoverboard: ‘I haven’t been on it in a long time.

‘I crashed it quite badly the last time I was out, because it’s impossible — no brakes. It’s lethal. It nearly killed me.’

Now 32 and starring in Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Servant, he admits making so much money at such a young age was ‘quite overwhelming, I literally did not know what to do’.

Although he shies away from watching himself as Ron Weasley in the eight Potter flicks, that might change now he has become a dad.

Last May, Rupert became the fastest person ever to achieve 1million followers on Instagram after announcing his actress girlfriend Georgia Groome had given birth to their daughter, Wednesday.

‘Now I’ve got a kid, that’s going to be a whole new kind of era,’ he told the Armchair Expert podcast.

Having started the Harry Potter series at the age of 11, Rupert said he and the other young cast members ‘went through our puberty on camera’.

He added: ‘It was definitely hard to get your head around, because I’m quite a shy, private person and suddenly to be put in that world was overwhelming.

‘And also the responsibility, because fans of the books… they hold these characters in such high regard. There was a time where it felt quite suffocating.

‘Every year, we came back. It was like Groundhog Day — same sets, same people. But it was great. I loved it.’

Movies in black and white… Diversity reigns at 2021 Baftas

There’s no risk of this year’s EE Baftas being all white on the night — the nominations are the most diverse and female-heavy in memory.

Following last year’s outcry over a lack of diversity, the effects of a Bafta shake-up were apparent in all the major categories announced yesterday.

The most prominent changes are in directing, with Shannon Murphy for Babyteeth, Jasmila Zbanic for Quo Vadis, Aida?, Sarah Gavron for Rocks and Chloe Zhao for Nomadland — along with Thomas Vinterberg for Another Round and Lee Isaac Chung for Minari.

Up for best actress are Bukky Bakray for Rocks, Radha Blank for The Forty-Year-Old Version, Vanessa Kirby for Pieces Of A Woman, Frances McDormand for Nomadland, Wunmi Mosaku for His House and Alfre Woodard for Clemency.

Sound Of Metal star Riz Ahmed fronts an equally diverse hunt for best actor, which includes a posthumous nod for Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

They take on Adarsh Gourav for The White Tiger, Tahar Rahim for The Mauritanian, Sir Anthony Hopkins for The Father and Mads Mikkelsen for Another Round.

Similar diversity was evident in the supporting actor and actress nods — Daniel Kaluuya, Barry Keoghan, Alan Kim, Leslie Odom Jr, Clarke Peters and Paul Raci, Niamh Algar, Kosar Ali, Maria Bakalova, Dominique Fishback, Ashley Madekwe and Yuh-jung Youn.

The EE British Academy Film Awards will take place remotely on April 11.

Emilia won’t act anymore if she’s pushed into cosmetic surgery (Picture: Instagram)

It will be exit the dragon if i’m told to have work done’, says Emilia Clarke

Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has warned movie bosses she will quit acting if she is asked to have anything more than ‘a bit of Botox’.

The 34-year-old dragon queen is determined to embrace her frown lines. ‘You hear about all your contemporaries getting it done and you’re like, “Does that mean I have to?” ’ Emilia told Elle magazine.

‘Then you work on a movie and the director of photography lights you beautifully and you get over it. I work in an industry where I’ve got to move my face, and I’ve got to be expressive, and you can’t light filler. It doesn’t look right.

‘If my job is telling me I need anything more than possibly a bit of Botox when I’m 45 or whatever, then I’ll stop doing the job.’

Selena Gomez: ‘You don’t need to believe to know there’s something bigger

It is possible to believe in God but not be religious, according to Selena Gomez.

Looking heavenly in her bikini, the Wolves singer said her Christianity helped her through her life-saving kidney transplant in 2017.

‘You don’t necessarily even need to believe to know that there’s something above you that’s bigger than you,’ Selena, 28, told Vogue.

‘You’re throwing your hands up, going, “I actually have no idea what is next”.’

She went on: ‘I believe in God but I’m not religious. I’ve been a Christian for a while now.’

While dating Justin Bieber, Selena was a regular at the celeb-filled church Hillsong.

She added: ‘I just want to make it clear that I love being able to have my faith and believe in what I believe in.’
