Tonight a bunch of celebrities will take to The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2021 tent for its annual event in the name of Stand Up To Cancer – but one familiar face isn’t making quips around the benches, with Noel Fielding missing from the line-up.

Bringing us all kinds of sugary goodness via our television screens, a brand new series across five episodes lands tonight with the likes of Daisy Ridley, Jade Thirlwall, Alexandra Burke, Dizzee Rascal and Nadine Coyle all staking their claims in the competition.

Over the coming weeks, 20 celebrities will be doing their best to impress judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, while host Matt Lucas will be ‘keeping time and spirits up’.

But where is Mighty Boosh star Noel?

The host – who entertains us alongside Matt and judges Prue and Paul in the regular Great British Bake Off series – will have his lack of presence felt in tonight’s episode at Matt helms the show solo.

The 47-year-old was unable to film while he took paternity leave, following the birth of his second child with girlfriend Lliana Bird in October.

Presenter Lliana welcomed baby Iggy last year, who joined their daughter Dali, who was born in the spring of 2018.

Noel was also forced to miss the Christmas special of Bake Off, which aired last year, while he was on leave.

He was replaced by Extra Slice regular Tom Allen for the festive episode – but this time the comic will be trying his luck as an actual contestant.

Already off to a cheeky start, a recent teaser revealed a taste of what’s to come from the charity version of the much-loved baking show.

In the clip Paul was seen complimenting Tom Allen’s ‘nice crack’ after cutting into his tray of fresh bakes.

‘Thank you, but what do you think about the shortbread?’ Tom jokes.

Sharing her excitement ahead of the new episodes, Sarah Lazenby, Head of Formats and Features: ‘What we all need right now is more joy. Bake Off is serving up yet another dollop of fun courtesy of some very willing celebrities.

‘We can’t promise a huge helping of baking inspiration, but we can deliver some much-needed laughs.’

Celebrity Bake Off begins tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
