Trevor Peacock warmed the hearts of the nation with his famous role as Jim Trott in The Vicar of Dibley.
The actor died on Tuesday morning at the age of 89 following a battle with dementia, his family confirmed.
Peacock was diagnosed with dementia in 2009, and it was reported in 2017 that he had advanced dementia and had retired from acting, living in a nursing home.
As the world of TV mourns the loss, Vicar of Dibley fans are sharing fond memories of Peacock’s top character moments and catchphrases.
Who did Trevor Peacock play in Vicar of Dibley?
Peacock was best known for his longtime role as Dibley Parish Council member Jim. He starred in 26 episodes of the iconic BBC sitcom alongside the likes of Dawn French and Emma Chambers, the latter of who died in 2018.
Jim won viewers over with his catchphrase of repeating the word ‘no’ – the opposite to his wife Doris whose own catchphrase was repeating ‘yes’.
The councillor’s stuttering once memorably caused him to lose during an appearance on Deal Or No Deal.
Despite his marriage to Doris, Jim proposed to the Vicar Geraldine Granger (French) in the final episode, leaving the status of his current marriage a mystery.
Trevor Peacock’s best quotes
Aside from his trademark punchline of ‘no’, Jim Trott was also best known for his many sexual references.
In one episode, he said: ‘Sex! Sex! Sex! That’s all you get on television these days.’
Geraldine Granger (French) asked: ‘Is it?’ to which Jim replied: ‘It is on mine; I watch the Playboy channel.’
