Andrew Neil has revealed his hopes to get Piers Morgan on GB News – as ‘any network worth its salt’ would want him on their team.

Piers has suddenly become open for work after sensationally quitting Good Morning Britain on Tuesday evening, after refusing to apologise for his comments about Meghan Markle and her interview with Oprah Winfrey

Speaking to BBC News, Andrew – chair of new channel GB News – made no secret of his praise for the journalist and said that GMB will be lost without him.

He said: ‘[Good Morning Britain] had always lagged way behind the BBC breakfast time show and people tuned in because of him.

‘It reminded me of the old days of Newsnight. People tuned in if Jeremy Paxman was doing it. If he wasn’t doing it it wasn’t so exciting and the same is true of GMB.

‘It’s a real problem now for ITV that they’ve lost him. The programme this morning was much more run of the mill, low key, kind of ordinary, so it’s going to be difficult for them to replace him.’

‘Piers would be a huge asset to GB News and we’ll definitely look at that,’ Andrew said.

‘We haven’t started any negotiations yet but we would certainly be delighted to talk to him if he’s up for it.’

GB News has been described as the biggest TV channel to launch in the UK since Sky News was first established three decades ago.

With a financial backing from Discovery, GB News plans to broadcast individual programmes and news-based programmes built around its presenting team, instead of being a rolling news channel.

Some have criticised the channel, prior to its launch, for being too ‘right-leaning’ when it comes to its political stance and reports claim that GB News will take on a similar style to Fox News over in the US.

However, the channel – which has yet to be given an official launch date – has insisted they will still to ‘impartial’ journalism.
