Jim Davidson has eagerly thrown his hat in the ring to become Piers Morgan’s replacement on Good Morning Britain.

The controversial comedian uploaded an ‘audition’ video as part of his Lockdown Diary series, which saw him insisting he could take over from Piers, who quit the ITV show after six years this week.

‘Thank you for seeing me, it’s nice to be here in the offices of Good Morning Britain to apply for the job of presenter,’ he began. ‘Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jim Davidson, I’ve been in showbiz news for 226 years.’

The 67-year-old reeled off his CV, before explaining: ‘I’m not without controversy and I am able to argue with people I don’t like.’

Describing Morgan’s departure as a ‘loss’, he suggested Susanna Reid will struggle in his absence.

Davidson went on to speak about ‘the other lady’ (Ranvir Singh), mentioning how she ‘probably dances on ice,’ which was presumably a reference to her time on Strictly, and ‘the weatherman’ (Alex Beresford), who he bizarrely quipped would be signing up to ‘play the baddie in various pantos’.

Later on in the ‘audition’, he joked that he couldn’t remember Meghan Markle’s name.

Safe to say, we don’t think we’ll be seeing him on our TVs anytime soon.

The comedian, who hosted shows like Big Break and The Generation Game, has been at the centre of various controversies over the years.

Most recently, he uploaded a vile rant about Diversity’s Black Lives Matter performance on Britain’s Got Talent last year.

Calling the routine ‘ridiculous’, Davidson said: ‘I don’t know what you want. Diversity, what the f*** do you want? You want to be famous, don’t you? You want to be all around the world. That’s why you’re doing it, you don’t give a f*** about George [Floyd]. F***ing ridiculous.’

Morgan left GMB this week after receiving 41,000 Ofcom complaints about his comments on Meghan Markle.

The presenter, 55, said he ‘didn’t believe’ Markle after she spoke out about being suicidal and, during his last show, stormed off set following a confrontation with Beresford.

Later clarifying his comments on mental health, he said: ‘If somebody is feeling that way, they should get the treatment and help they need every time. If they belong to an institution like the royal family, and they go and seek that help, they should absolutely be given it.

‘It’s not for me to question whether she felt suicidal. I wasn’t in her mind and that’s for her to say.

‘My real concern was a disbelief, frankly, and I’m prepared to be proven wrong on this, and if I’m wrong, it’s a scandal, that she went to a senior member of the royal household, told them she was suicidal, and was told she could not have any help because it would be a bad look for the family.

‘If that is true, A: that person, if they’re still there, should be fired, and B: the royal family have serious questions to be answered about how they handled it.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
