Lorraine Kelly has stated that breakfast television will ‘never be the same again’ after Piers Morgan quit Good Morning Britain.
Piers left the programme on Tuesday following 61,000 Ofcom complaints against his comments about Meghan Markle and her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
After Susanna Reid addressed her co-star’s departure, Lorraine briefly joined the show where she shared her opinions on her colleague’s exit and said ‘it will be a lot quieter and calmer’.
‘Tell you what, he will be missed,’ she said. ‘I know that Piers divided opinion, of course he did, you know there was that marmite factor.
‘It will be a lot quieter and a lot calmer, but he definitely will be missed. I don’t think breakfast television will ever be the same again, that’s for sure.’
‘I think unique is the word to describe him, Piers Morgan,’ Susanna added.
‘You either loved or in some cases, people hated him. Hugely popular with many, many viewers. Hugely controversial. Many, many critics but a big presence.’
‘Actually, a very loyal friend,’ Lorraine commented. ‘Anybody that’s ever been in trouble and needed his help, he has been there.’
During the programme, Piers tweeted, saying he still does not believe what Meghan said in her interview.
He penned: ‘On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.
‘Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.’
Ofcom announced on Tuesday that it is investigating his comments.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
