Piers Morgan has thanked Sharon Osbourne for ‘defending him against the woke brigade’ after he quit Good Morning Britain.

The TV broadcaster quit the morning breakfast show on Tuesday evening after refusing to apologise for his comments towards Meghan Markle – insisting he ‘didn’t believe a word the Duchess said’ in a discussion about her feeling suicidal over the pressure of Royal life.

Sharon, alongside other stars including Gary Lineker, spoke out in his defence, with the former X Factor judge saying she ‘stood by him’ voicing his opinion.

In response to the tweet tonight, Piers replied: ‘When stuff like this happens, true friends run towards you, fake friends run away. I love Sharon Osbourne because she always stays true to herself.

‘She knew she would get abused by the woke brigade for tweeting this – but did it anyway because it what she believes.’

More than 41,000 people complained to Ofcom about Piers’s conduct on Monday’s episode about Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Discussing the interview, Piers said he ‘didn’t believe’ Meghan when she claimed she was discouraged for seeking help for her mental health for fear of it looking bad on the family.

He said: ‘Who did you go to? What did she say to you? I’m sorry but I don’t believe a word she says, Meghan Markle.

‘I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report. The fact that she’s fired this onslaught our Royal Family is contemptible.’

Piers later clarified his comments on Tuesday’s GMB, but didn’t apologise, and on the same episode got into a clash with Alex Beresford, resulting in him walking off set.
