Top Gear hosts Paddy McGuinness, Chris Harris and Freddie Flintoff dropped by The One Show to talk all about its new series, but their interview was thrown into chaos by Paddy nearly ‘knocking himself out’.
The former Take Me Out host, 47, had been discussing a clip from the upcoming series, which saw him attempting to drive a vintage car while sat on his co-star Chris’ lap.
Rylan Clark-Neal teased that Paddy had looked a little too comfortable, with the TV star getting a little too enthusiastic as he replied and hitting his head on the wall behind him.
The blow immediately had Paddy holding his head in his hands and screaming out in pain, which left his co-hosts Chris and Freddie in fits of laughter.
Rylan made sure to check if Paddy was ok and apologised to viewers just in case Paddy had accidentally dropped an expletive.
He said: ‘We should apologise if there was any language there that wasn’t… are you alright Pad? Are you alright? Knocked yourself out a little bit?’
Rylan joked: ‘Can we just say this man is in charge of driving cars very fast and he’s just knocked himself out on his own plastering.’
A red-faced Paddy blamed the accident on the pitched roof, as he explained: ‘I’m in the spare room because of the kids, I’ve had to slope off and hide.’
As he and the studio managed to compose themselves – host Alex Jones ended up in tears from laughing so hard – Paddy went back to the clip that had been shown and recalled: ‘Basically, we were in a small car, Kris was sort of leant back and I was wedged on top of him.

‘That was extremely uncomfortable, but then in the next challenge, I was on the bottom and Fred was on top of me. That was a whole world of pain… it was not good.’
Poking fun at himself, Paddy was seen reacting to his mishap live on TV and shared a GIF from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt of Kimmy headbutting a hanging feature.
‘The @BBCTheOneShow went well. #theoneshow #topgear,’ he joked.
Viewers were just as amused, as one teased: ‘Good effort Paddy,’ while sharing a string of crying laughing emoji and another seemed pretty made up as they tweeted: ‘WHAT JUST HAPPENED TO PADDY, DAY MADE.’
‘you gotta love live TV when @PaddyMcGuinness bumped his head on his own ceiling! #TheOneShow,’ one more added.
Top Gear is set to return on Sunday, with the new series including one of the show’s riskiest and most dangerous stunts to date where Paddy, Freddie and Chris are pulled along a runway with titanium plates strapped to their feet.
Paddy teased: ‘Even watching it, you know, I don’t think you get a sense of how risky it was. But we did it and it’s done. No, we would never do it again. But we hope the viewers enjoy that.’
The One Show airs weeknights at 7pm on BBC One, while Top Gear returns Sunday at 8pm on BBC One.
