Piers Morgan quit Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, after his rant regarding Meghan Markle’s comments on her mental health racked up 41,000 Ofcom complaints.

In a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Duchess of Sussex spoke candidly about ‘not wanting to be alive anymore’.

She claimed that she approached the ‘institution’ for psychiatric help but was denied.

Piers sparked instant backlash on GMB the following day, when he said he ‘didn’t believe a word she said’ – with ITV later announcing his departure.

Following his explosive exit, there has been intense speculation on what the presenter will do now – and where his next move could be.

All eyes have been on Piers for any hint of his next career move, with the star being linked to many publications and programmes.

He has been tipped to sign a contract with the upcoming channel GB News, alongside Andrew Neil and Dan Wootton.

Speaking of the new venture, which is set to officially launch this year, former BBC star Andrew said: ‘GB News is the most exciting thing to happen in British television news for more than 20 years.

‘We will champion robust, balanced debate and a range of perspectives on the issues that affect everyone in the UK, not just those living in the London area.’

Fans on social media are convinced GB News will be Piers’ next perch, with bookmakers Star Sports offering odds of 6/4 for Piers to sign a contract with the channel this year.

There is also speculation that Piers could spearhead a new venture from Rupert Murdoch, News UK TV.

He has been linked to the channel alongside frenemy Lord Alan Sugar, who he constantly spars with on social media – meaning we could be in for yet more fiery scenes.

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker also offered Piers an interview slot on his rival show.

Shortly after his exit was announced, Dan tweeted: ‘Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan.

‘If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it… we could make some space for you in the morning.’

Piers has not yet responded to that invite, but has celebrated GMB beating BBC Breakfast in the ratings.

What has Piers said over his GMB exit?

After doubling down about his comments concerning Meghan Markle on Twitter, the Life Stories host described his departure from GMB as ‘amicable’.

Speaking outside his London home on Wednesday morning, he told reporters: ‘I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree.

‘I’m just going to take it easy and see how we go.’

Addressing the furore over his comments towards Meghan on Monday’s episode of GMB, he continued: ‘I believe in freedom of speech, I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion.

‘If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right.

‘I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and, frankly, contemptible.

‘If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it.’

‘I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge,’ he added.

‘I would call it a temporary hibernation.’

What did ITV say on Piers’ GMB exit?

Soon after it emerged that Piers’ rant had received 41,000 complaints, ITV announced his departure from Good Morning Britain.

Issuing a very brief statement, they said: ‘Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.’
