WWE’s Adam Cole would love two night NXT TakeOver during WrestleMania week

WWE superstar Adam Cole is excited by the possibility of a two night NXT TakeOver leading into WrestleMania 37.

The 31-year-old wrestler – who challenges Finn Balor for the NXT Championship on tonight’s edition of the black and gold brand – insisted he’s still in the dark about William Regal’s much-hyped major announcements promised for the show, but he’s addressed speculation a double header could be on the cards next month.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘I mean this honest to god – I actually do not know the announcement, I’m just going to figure it out just like everybody else.

‘Hypothetically, TakeOver is my favourite event that NXT does, any time there’s a TakeOver it feels special.

‘Of course, the idea of there being two of those in a row is very, very exciting – especially with the weeks leading up to the big WrestleMania event that everyone’s excited about!’

For the former NXT and North American Champion, the potential of a second night would mean another chance for the brand as a whole – one he’s very proud of – to showcase their talented roster to the world.

He added: ‘God, of course! If that does end up going down and that does happen, that just means NXT has two nights to prove how good of a brand we are.

‘So we’ll see – if that does end up coming into fruition, I’ll be just as excited as everybody else, I’ll tell you that!’

For now though, Adam’s focus is on his championship match with Balor as he looks to regain the title after his own record-setting 403-day reign with the gold ended at the hands of Keith Lee at The Great American Bash in July 2020.

The pair have met twice before in singles competition, but the dynamic is very different with the challenger now going solo as a true villain without his Undisputed Era teammates.

He said: ‘This one just feels extra special. The first time we wrestled each other, I was the NXT Champion and I managed to retain the title. Then the second time, it was Super Tuesday for the vacant NXT Title and he beat me.

‘So, in my eyes this is the rubber match, this is the big one that finally proves who the better man is between me and Finn Balor.’

‘The thing I’m happiest about is I fee like every single time we’ve stepped in the ring together, the match has felt very fresh,’ he smiled.

As well as the obvious prize of the championship itself, there’s also more on the line as the winner will hold the title heading into WrestleMania season.

The question remains, if TakeOver takes place next month as rumoured, would Adam – should he win tonight – rather defend the gold on NXT’s flagship show, or is he more intrigued by the idea of following in Rhea Ripley’s footsteps by putting it on the line at WrestleMania itself?

‘This may sound silly to some people because I’ve made it so clear that to have a WrestleMania moment some day is a dream of mine, and it’s something I cherish and something that I really wanna accomplish some day,’ he carefully pondered.

‘However, you have a responsibility as the NXT Champion to prove why the NXT brand is the best one in all of WWE.

‘And part of that demand and responsibility is on the biggest shows that NXT has to offer – and that is TakeOver – that that champion is there defending that championship and having classic matches.

‘If it came down to me defending the championship at TakeOver WrestleMania weekend or defending the championship at WrestleMania, I gotta go with TakeOver.’
