Britney Spears’ conservatorship is not being considered a priority for Congress as it simply has ‘bigger issues’ to deal with.

The singer’s ongoing conservatorship, which she has been under since 2008, has gained renewed interest in recent months thanks to the documentary, Framing Britney Spears, and the #FreeBritney movement.

While Congressmen Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan had called for a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the issue, dubbing Britney’s conservatorship ‘questionable’, it doesn’t appear that it will be made a priority.

A spokesperson for the House Judiciary Committee told TMZ that it was currently working ‘to advance critical legislation to protect and strengthen civil rights and civil liberties for all Americans.’

They say this includes holding hearings on enforcement of controlled substances, reviving competition for a free and diverse press and upholding standards of conduct for Congressional members.

This doesn’t mean Britney’s case won’t get a hearing in future, however as House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler has received their request, but sources say the timing is just not right at the moment.

The two Congressmen, who were among President Donald Trump’s top allies, had said Britney’s case was a ‘striking example’ of why conservatorships needed to be discussed.

They urged in. a letter to Jerry Nadler: ‘Given the constitutional freedoms at stake and opaqueness of these arrangements, it is incumbent upon our Committee to convene a hearing to examine whether Americans are trapped unjustly in conservatorships.’

Their claims were refuted by attorneys for Jamie Spears, Britney’s dad who has been her co-conservator.

His attorney, Vivian Thoreen, told TMZ: ‘Jamie Spears has diligently and professionally carried out his duties as one of Britney’s conservators, and his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her is clearly apparent to the court.’

Fans have long been campaigning for Britney to be removed from the conservatorship and for her to regain control of her estate.
