Dancing on Ice has been hit by another injury just days ahead of the final, with
Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill both suffering an ‘almighty fall’.

The professional skaters were left ‘battered and bruised’ after falling on Monday while practising for Sunday’s show.

Speaking to Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway on Good Morning Britain today, Christopher said they took a tumble which he is ‘still paying for’.

‘Jane and I haven’t skated for the last eight weeks, because we’ve been in our bubble. Everything we’ve done we recorded before. But we are skating this last week,’ he said.

‘We were just on the ice on Monday and we took an almighty fall, which I’m still paying for.

He added: ‘I feel a bit battered and bruised. But it happens.’

Christopher went on to say that he managed to cushion Jayne’s landing with his body, which lessened the impact of her fall.

‘I caught an edge, went down and placed myself under Jane so she landed on top of me,’ he said. ‘So she had a nice cushion, and it was just my back that took the pressure. We’re all good.’

Thankfully, it seems like the pair will still be able to perform at the weekend, with the 62-year-old adding: ‘You go through falls, and what you do is you learn to fall better. That’s basically it. They are going to happen. You fall down 10 times, you get up 11 times.’

Sunday’s show will see Sonny Jay, Faye Brookes and Colin Jackson skate off and compete to be named Dancing on Ice champion.

The series has been hit with a number of injuries and positive coronavirus tests.

Rufus Hound was the first contestant ruled out of the competition, then Denise Van Outen quit the series after dislocating her shoulder while in training.

Towie star Billie Faiers was the third celebrity out after suffering a head injury. Yebin Mok suffered a horror injury and left the show, before Joe-Warren Plant became the fourth celebrity to leave the competition after he and his skating partner Vanessa Bauer tested positive for coronavirus.

Professional skater Hamish Gaman was forced to withdraw from the series after snapping a tendon in his hand and Jason Donovan also left the show after suffering from back pain.

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
