Nikola Jokic on the Path of Mavericks Icon Dirk Nowitzki, Reveals Future Plans with Denver Nuggets

Many players in the NBA jump teams in order to win a ring. A lack of success over the years makes players lose patience and forces them to switch teams. But Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic isn’t interested in such business.

During their post-game press conference last night, Jokic made it clear that he wants to win in Denver. “If I win it with Nuggets… that’s gonna be (more) than if I go or someone else joins us… that’s even better, maybe someone joins us. My personal opinion is I’d rather win it with Nuggets than with another team,” he said.

Jokic is eager to follow the similar path of fellow European Dirk Nowitzki. The German stayed with the Mavericks his full career, and also got them their first-ever championship. That was a huge achievement, and Jokic is keen to pull off something similar and stay loyal to his team.

The Nuggets placed their faith in him being a franchise player for them by giving him a max contract before he even made an All-Star appearance. And now he is showing his loyalty by announcing his wishes to stay and win a ring in Denver.

Can Nikola Jokic deliver a maiden NBA championship to Denver?

Since they entered the league in the 1976-77 season, the Nuggets haven’t gone beyond the Western Conference Finals. Despite being one of the best teams regularly, their playoff performance has often let them down.

Alex English, David Thompson, and Carmelo Anthony are some great players who have donned the Nuggets jersey over the years. But none of them have been able to bring home the Larry O’Brien trophy.

So Jokic has an uphill task to surpass those legendary players and do what they couldn’t. The Nuggets are supporting him well and are doing their best to build a competitive team around him. This season, they have been playing below expectations, and with the level of competition, it is unlikely that this is their season.

But in the coming seasons, Jokic can definitely achieve this feat. Still only 26, Jokic has a lot of years left in his career. Along with a ring, Jokic is also likely to become the first Nuggets player to win MVP. He is a special talent and is just entering the prime years of his career.
