The cast of The Circle series three has been revealed and it’s one of the most intriguing yet, with a former Gladiators star hoping to catfish his fellow contestants.

The reality show sees nine players competing for £100,000 as they live in a block of apartments and stay isolated from each other, only communicating through a voice-activated system called The Circle.

It’s a popularity contest, with the players rating each other and the lowest-rated being eliminated, but the catch is they can either play as themselves or catfish their fellow players and do their best not to get caught.

The first series of the show saw Alex Hobern won the cash prize – and an extra prize after being voted the viewers’ favourite – by catfishing his fellow players in 2018.

As it returns to Channel 4 next week, after the celebrity series comes to an end, the new cast have been introduced – and there’s plenty more catfishing on the horizon.

Gladiators star James (Hunter)

James, now 47, appeared on Gladiators from 1993 to 2000 and is now a strength and conditioning coach.

He’s up for a challenge and is catfishing as NHS nurse Gemma.

‘Most of the challenges I’ve done have been quite body crushing,’ he pointed out. ‘I think The Circle will be an interesting challenge to try and get away with playing somebody else, it uses different muscles to what I’m used to.

‘I also really want to take this opportunity to give back to NHS nurses, winning the prize money would give me the chance to show my gratitude for all their hard work.’

YouTuber Hashu

In true YouTuber style, Hashu, 28, is keen to prank his other players, and is catfishing them, posing as his Uncle Syed.

‘From a young age I loved pranking people,’ he explained. ‘I’ve always been the one in the house that makes everyone else laugh.

‘This is the perfect opportunity for me to put my pranking and catfishing abilities to the test and entertain the British public, whilst hopefully getting a cash injection!’

Accountant Vithun

Vithun, 23, is clearly a contestant after our own hearts, living for the drama as he plays as himself.

‘I have always been a fan of reality TV,’ he explained. ‘I live for drama, chaos and anarchy!

‘There has never been an Asian winner of a civilian reality TV show in the UK, I want to try and make history.’

Company director Andy

Andy, 34, is full of shade, as he’s determined to play as himself and win ‘with a bit of integrity’.

‘I really want to get a catfish to admit to me that they’re a catfish,’ he said.

‘I don’t know what I would do with that information, but that is my ultimate aim. I’d class that as winning.’

Father and daughter Jamie and Millie

Jamie, 57, and Millie, 20, are doing some classic father-daughter bonding and, erm, teaming up to catfish the other contestants.

They’re playing as Penny, a 49-year-old letting agent from London.

Student Millie described the game as completely ‘unique’, as she prepares to play with relationship therapist Jamie, saying: ‘It’s just one of the most unique games you can go into.

‘With social media nowadays, it’s all about the way you present yourself. So to go in and get to know someone, without seeing fully who the person is, is quite refreshing.’

Content creator Manrika

Manrika, 24, who’s also a recruitment consultant, wants to live outside expectations with her appearance on the show.

She explained: ‘I’ve been judged my whole life for the way I live because I come from an Indian background.

‘My parents and family are very westernised but it’s the wider society, the way that I live isn’t the expectation of what an Indian girl should be. So, I’m going on to show that you can still live your life, have that social media lifestyle and also be a respectable girl.’

Receptionist Tally

Tally, 23, has admitted that she’s built up a social media presence that doesn’t really represent her.

‘I really want to go on The Circle to strip everything back and be perceived as my normal quirky self rather than these posey, edited pictures,’ she said.

‘I want to see if you are really only accepted if you look a certain way.’

Dating Agency Founder Yolanda

Yolanda, 30, is playing as her husband Chris – and trying to make his dreams come true in the process.

‘I could make Chris’s dream come true and launch a landscaping firm,’ she said.

‘A lot of people feel the world has given up on them and we want to help give people the opportunity to succeed and grow by learning a trade.’

Sports marketing manager Billy

Billy, 19, isn’t afraid to admit he’s in it for the money, and is also playing as himself.

‘I do also like the game – The Circle is different to everything else, it’s very unique so I thought, why not?’ he said.

The Circle starts March 16 at 9:15pm on Channel 4.
