The Voice UK fans have expressed their shock after discovering that two singers backed out of the competition ahead of the second week of the semi-finals.

On the latest episode of the ITV singing competition, it was announced that singer Wura, who joined team Sir Tom Jones after impressing him with her performance of Celeste’s Strange in the Blind Auditions, had to drop out of the running.

Despite beating Jake O’Neill in the battle round, presenter Emma Willis revealed that Wura had to leave the show due to medical reasons.

Shortly afterwards, viewers learnt that fellow competitor Janel Antoneshia, who was on will.i.am’s team, had also left the series.

She was replaced by rapper Okulaja, who was eventually chosen by will.i.am to go through to the public vote.

Several The Voice UK viewers couldn’t believe that two contestants had dropped out, with one person tweeting that they were ‘both my winners’ and the news made them want to ‘cry’.

‘I’m so confused, why are people just dropping out of #TheVoiceUK? Is something going on we don’t know about??’ one person tweeted.

‘Anyone know why 2 of the people dropped out of The Voice UK?’ someone else asked.

In a post shared on her Instagram Story, Janel said that ‘sadly’ she had to ‘walk away’, but didn’t specify the reason for her exit.

Janel emphasised that she was ‘rooting for herself’ on the series, adding: ‘I didn’t give up. I was going for the win 100%.’

Wura tweeted about her departure from the competition earlier this week, writing: ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances I am no longer a part of the Voice UK 2021!

‘I am so grateful to God for the journey so far and I completely trust His process with me.

‘I want to thank @thevoiceuk team for going above and beyond to make sure i could even be a part of the show.’

The Voice UK returns next Saturday evening on ITV and is available to watch on ITV Player.
