Paul Heyman has claimed Christian Cage ‘ran away’ from WWE to AEW.

The 55-year-old legend was addressing Edge and his planned Universal Championship match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37, and he couldn’t resist taking a cheap shot at his friend’s move to the rival promotional.

Speaking in-character on this week’s episode of Talking Smack, Heyman – who acts as a special counsel for the Tribal Chief – said: ‘Let’s think about this. Edge, your best friend in this world knew he was going to become Roman Reigns’ target just to get into your head.

‘What did he do? He ran away before Roman Reigns could target him. How many of your ‘Christians’ need to convert before you realize it’s not smart to p**s off Roman Reigns? You, Edge, have p***ed off Roman Reigns.’

His comments come a week after Christian – who made an unexpected in-ring return at the Royal Rumble in January – shockingly made his first appearance and signed a contract at AEW Revolution.

On this week’s Dynamite, he appeared and confronted AEW World Champion Kenny Omega, suggesting a high profile feud is on the cards.

Appearing on the Oral Sessions podcast, Captain Charisma recently admitted he would never have expected making this move.

He told Renee Paquette: ‘No, I would not think that at all to be honest with you. It all happened really quick I wasn’t sure how it was gonna go; All the talks that I had [with WWE] were very cordial.’

He added that Renee’s husband Jon Moxley played a big role in getting him on board.

He explained: ‘He talked to me and had his opinions and stuff like that it made me kind of think that like okay, maybe I am doing myself a disservice if I don’t at least explore all my options.

‘And at this final stage of my career. I ended up having a conversation with Tony [Kahn] and it escalated very quickly. It went very fast. Like within a week it was a done deal.’
