Ant and Dec create epic sea shanty with Queen’s Brian May on Saturday Night Takeaway
Sea shanties took over the internet earlier this year, and now Ant and Dec have created their own epic version of the viral trend with a spectacular ‘end of the show show’ on Saturday Night Takeaway.
The pair teamed up with the likes of musician Nathan Evans and Queen guitarist Brian May for a unique take on the hit song Wellerman, treating viewers to a show-stopping performance.
Setting sail on the ‘good ship Takeaway’ Ant and Dec introduced a huge number of celebrity guests, all singing along to the re-worked track.
Joining in on the big screen were Dame Joan Collins, Laura Whitmore, Drag Race’s Lawrence, Josh Groban, Dermot O’Leary, Chris and Rosie Ramsay and many more.
Guitarist Brian also provided a wild solo, as the stage was transformed with dancers and singers dressed for the high seas.
The presenters gave the lyrics of the song a new twist, singing: ‘Soon when the Saturday comes, you sit on the sofa on your bum. Say goodbye to the week’s humdrum, on the good ship Takeaway.’
The sea shanty became the unlikely sound of 2021 after Postman Nathan Evans became one of the most-watched people on the internet, going viral on TikTok earlier this year.
His rendition of Wellerman blew up so much that Nathan got spotted by execs at Polydor, who signed him up to the record label. His remix of the song is currently in contention for number one.
On his Instagram, Nathan wrote: ‘Can’t actually believe I’m on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway tonight!! Help us get Wellerman to 1 stream and download now. Thanks @antanddec for having me on the show! Guess no one can resist a Wellerman singalong.’
Elsewhere on Saturday Night Takeaway, Ant and Dec were left in hysterics during a giveaway after a woman whipped her wig off and swung it around in joy.
Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
