Eurovision Song Contest 2021: Daði og Gagnamagnið drops track 10 Years for Iceland entry

Daði Freyr has returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in style with a certified banger in new track, 10 Years.

The Iceland entry to the competition became an international smash hit last year with their catchy 2020 effort, Think About Things, but never got to perform it as coronavirus meant Eurovision was cancelled.

But Daði og Gagnamagnið is now making a comeback, with the jumpsuit-clad band coming up with an even more addictive earworm to perform in Rotterdam on May 20.

If they are successful in the heat they will head to the grand final on May 22.

The song is based on Daði’s relationship with wife Árný Fjóla Ásmundsdóttir, whom he’s been with for more than a decade.

‘Quickly after I started writing the song I knew I wanted it to be about my relationship with my wife,’ he told Eurovision.tv. ‘This is our 10th year being together and it keeps getting better.

‘I had the music video and Rotterdam stage in mind when I made the arrangements so this is a song made for Eurovision.’

Their song drop came hours after Sweden confirmed Tusse will be performing as their entry with his song, Voices – dedicated to ‘fellowship, freedom and the importance of all voices being heard’.

It was confirmed in March to be going ahead – though how the show will be organised is still unknown.

While the team initially planned for all 41 acts to participate, Armenia has since withdrawn, and Belarus faces disqualification for the political content within their song choice.

James Newman is representing the UK with his song choice, Embers.

Eurovision Song Contest 2021: The Grand Finale airs May 22 on BBC One.
