ITV is said to be eyeing up Victoria Derbyshire as Piers Morgan’s replacement on Good Morning Britain.

Piers quit the daytime programme earlier this week after clashing with weather presenter Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle’s tell-all Oprah Winfrey interview.

He had also sparked an Ofcom investigation after racking up over 41,000 complaints for comments about not believing a word the Duchess of Sussex said about struggling with her mental health.

Viewers have been busy speculating who will take over Piers’ spot on the programme but now it seems that Victoria could soon be sat next to Susanna Reid.

An insider said: ‘ITV producers have been looking for the right platform for Victoria for a while.

‘They think she is a real talent and one of the few opinionated TV journalists who could be a real powerhouse addition to GMB.

‘She’s not afraid to challenge guests, ask tough questions, get straight to the point and wax lyrical about what she believes in.’

The source added to The Sun: ‘They’re using Piers’ exit as an opportunity to trial new faces.’

However, a spokesperson for ITV said this was purely speculative.

Victoria, who competed in the last series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, currently presents the news for the BBC after her award-winning current affairs programme The Victoria Derbyshire Show was axed last March.

Piers’ next career move is not yet known, however reports claim he’s in the middle of a £10million bidding war by television executives.

Earlier in the week, he promised he will be returning to television as he spoke to the press outside his London home.

‘I think it’s fair to say, although the woke crowd will think that they’ve cancelled me, I think they will be rather disappointed when I re-emerge,’ he said.

‘I would call it a temporary hibernation.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
