Mike Thalassitis’ parents have paid an emotional tribute ahead of the second anniversary of their son’s tragic death.

The Love Island star took his own life in March 2019 aged 26 after appearing on the ITV2 dating series two years prior.

Andy, 65, and Shirley, 63, have broken their silence on their son’s death and said they were unaware of Mike’s mental health battle and ‘didn’t see it coming’.

‘We have to live with what happened and he is on our mind every single day,’ Shirley said.

‘We just didn’t see it coming,’ Andy added to the Mirror. ‘I felt utter disbelief. He came to the house the Thursday before and said he was fine. He said, “I’ll see you Sunday”, and that was it.’

Shirley revealed she finds comfort in visiting Mike’s grave several times a week and taking flowers.

The inquest recorded Mike’s death as a suicide, with his cause of death ruled as cerebral hypoxia by hanging.

Traces of cocaine and alcohol were found in his system, with Fluoxetine, an anti-depressant, also found in his system.

Police confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mike’s death, with no third party involved.

A number of celebrities attended Mike’s funeral, including Love Island presenter Caroline Flack, who took her own life in February 2020.

Montana Brown, one of Mike’s closest friends from his time on the reality show, was seen crying as she headed to the service.

Rebecca Vardy, Towie’s Liam Gatsby and Love Island’s Georgia Harrison were among the first stars seen arriving at the church.
