Fiona Bruce has recalled the conversations she has had with her children after Sarah Everard went missing.

Sarah Everard went missing after leaving a friend’s house in Clapham, south London at 9pm on March 3. After a week-long search for her, human remains found in a woodland were identified as hers.

Her disappearance has sparked a conversation about the personal safety of women and girls, something the Antiques Roadshow presenter spoke about with her children Mia and Sam.

Speaking to Alex Jones and Michael Ball on Monday’s The One Show, she confessed she ‘worries more’ for her daughter.

Michael wanted to know what she made of the ongoing discussion, asking her to approach the issue ‘as a mum’.

What do you make of the discussion that we’re needing to have about women’s safety?’ he said.

‘How do you talk about it to your children, for example?’

Fiona said: ‘Whenever I try to talk to my children about things like that, there’s a sense that my experience isn’t necessarily relevant to theirs, they’re such a different generation.

‘This is a problem that’s as old as humanity, and it hasn’t changed. Is it gonna change? I don’t know.

‘Obviously you can’t help but worry more for your daughter than you do for your son, even though the statistics show the threat is actually the other way round but of course you worry more for your daughter.’

Police constable Wayne Couzens, who is accused of murdering Sarah, was remanded in custody after his first court appearance.

Couzens, 48, is charged with kidnapping and murdering Sarah, 33.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
