Fiona Bruce is crossing everything that Antiques Roadshow can film a normal series this summer as the UK eases out of lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The current series has been socially distanced and scaled back to keep guests and crew safe, but as applications for the new series open, the presenter wants to try and get more members of the public on site.

She called for viewers to get in touch with any weird and wonderful items they have that they want to have valued by experts.

Speaking on Monday’s episode of The One Show she told hosts Alex Jones and Michael Ball: ‘We have to be much more careful. No one knows what the summer is going to be like, so we want to invite people to apply beforehand again, and let us know what you’ve got, what you know, and send some pictures.

‘Last series thousands got in touch, maybe 9000 last year, so let’s have even more this year, and hopefully we will be able to open the doors to people as well.’

The series often delivers some surprises for its guests through unexpectedly high valuations.

It also has some emotional moments too, including a recent episode where an expert spoke movingly about his late mum.

Asked which guest sticks in her mind, Fiona recalled a man who brought in a Rolex watch that belonged to his late father that was valued at £50-£60,000.

She shared that there ‘wasn’t a dry eye in the house’ by the end of the episode.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
