Five Bethesda games to receive Xbox Series X frame rate upgrades today

The likes of Skyrim and Fallout 76 will have the FPS Boost feature enabled later today on Xbox Series X/S.

With Microsoft’s Bethesda buyout finally official, as of last week, Xbox owners are already enjoying the benefits it brings. 20 Bethesda games have been added to the Game Pass service and now a number of them have received frame rate upgrades.

The five games in question are Fallout 4, Fallout 76, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Dishonored: Definitive Edition, and Prey. The update which enables FPS Boost on Xbox Series X/S has gone live today and applies to anyone who owns the game or who plays them via Game Pass.

As detailed on Microsoft’s website, FPS Boost improves the frame rate, doubling it from 30fps to 60fps to make games visually smoother. This isn’t necessarily possible with every game on the console, but Microsoft does promise it for the five games mentioned.

Since there are higher graphics requirements for the technology to work, the resolution for some games, namely Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, have had to be reduced in order for them to run smoothly. For these games, FPS Boost won’t be automatically enabled, and you’ll need to manually activate it yourself.

Thanks to a recent update, there’s a new Compatibility Options button in the Manage Game section that lets you toggle FPS Boost on and off, as well as Auto HDR, so if you find yourself preferring playing games at only 30fps, that’s still an option.

There will also be an indicator to tell you whenever a game is running with the boost activated.

Just tap the Xbox button on your controller while in-game and there should be a Guide overlay indicator in the upper right corner of screen.
