AEW wrestler and Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho has blasted the Grammy Awards for its brief tribute to Eddie Van Halen.

The late guitarist – who sadly died last year aged 65 following a battle with throat cancer – was honoured by the Recording Academy during the In Memorium section of Sunday night’s ceremony as his image appeared on the screen with his signature instrument on the stage and his finger-tapping style blaring out for a few second.

Many fans suggested a longer tribute would have been more appropriate, and WWE legend Jericho took his anger one step further.

He tweeted: ‘Hey @RecordingAcad… no tribute to @eddievanhalen tonight? You and your bulls**t awards can GO F**K YOUR ASS!!

‘And don’t ever try to give my band a nomination. I’d rather win a @RazzieAwards … #F**kOffGrammys #Grammys (sic)’

While many fans agreed with the sentiment, others pointed out that the Grammys had paid its respects to the legendary musician.

And plenty of others couldn’t resist mocking poor Chris for pulling his own metal band out of consideration for potential nominations in the future.

One follower posted crying laughing emojis, and wrote: ‘”Don’t ever try and give my band a nomination” I think your safe… (sic)’

Another added: ‘Who said they would even consider Fozzy for a Grammy (sic)’

And a different user tweeted: ‘No worries. I fully believe the Grammy’s will respect your wishes from now until the end of time. (sic)’

Meanwhile, Jericho can be seen in All Elite Wrestling, where fellow WWE icon Paul ‘The Big Show’ Wight recently made a splash.

Fans will be eagerly awaiting Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite after his tag team partner MJF turned on him and revealed he’s been secretly building his own faction The Pinnacle – featuring FTR, Tully Blanchard, Wardlow and Shawn Spears – to rival the Inner Circle.
