Married At First Sight Australia is well and truly underway with its eighth season down under and the series has introduced the show’s first ever bisexual groom.

The latest episode saw prison officer Liam Cooper, 29, tie the knot with 25-year-old Georgia Fairweather, with the couple making a late arrival to the experiment.

Their wedding reception was attended by the other couples on the show and Liam was seen being quizzed as he and bride Georgia were asked what their ‘non-negotiables’ were when it came to their partners.

While Georgia said that she would ‘really struggle’ if she was matched with someone who was ‘super judgemental and close-minded’, Liam insisted he didn’t have any.

His answer led to fellow bride Rebecca Zemek grilling him further and bringing up his sexuality, she asked him: ‘So what happens if they didn’t swing your way?’

‘Is that not a non-negotiable?’ she pressed.

Liam kept it cool and collected, as he simply responded: ‘No, it’s fine,’ but it was clear his bride Georgia was a little confused by the conversation and asked Liam whether he was bisexual.

‘I am yeah,’ he told her.

It’s clear the conversation caught Liam off guard, with him telling the camera: ‘I can’t believe that just happened in front of everyone.’

He later got a chance to discuss his sexuality with Georgia during a one-on-one conversation, where she was seen reassuring Liam.

She told her new husband: ‘I so believe… things that you did before, it all led you to be here today and the person that you are.

‘As long as you choose to be with me and we are the people that we need to be for each other, it doesn’t bother me, honestly.’

MAFS Australia has previously seen same-sex marriages included on the show, with its first gay couple Craig Roach and Andy Ankers appearing in season three in 2016.

Tash Herz and Amanda Micallef then wed during season seven of MAFS Australia – which is set to air in the UK later this year – and their marriage became the first same-sex marriage on the show following gay marriage being legalised in Australia in 2017.

MAFS Australia has taken the UK by storm over lockdown, with season six playing out on E4 and coming to an explosive close earlier this month.

It saw dinner party showdowns and two cheating scandals rock the experiment, while Cam Merchant and Jules Robinson took it upon themselves to prove that marrying a total stranger could result in a fairytale ending.

Married At First Sight Australia is available to stream via All 4.
