The Circle stars Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson nearly gave away their true identity after making it all the way to the final of the celebrity series of the show.

A star-studded cast has moved into the iconic Circle flats for a Stand Up To Cancer special ahead of season three premiering on Channel 4 and Monday night saw the series come to a close with a tense finale episode.

Pete and Sam had been a cat-fish, pretending to be Countdown star Rachel Riley throughout the competition – and while the boys played one hell of a game that had pretty much everyone thinking they were the real deal, they nearly blew it all with one silly mistake.

After a double blocking that saw Charlotte Crosby and Baga Chipz unveiled as catfishes (they were pretending to be Peter Andre and Kim Woodburn respectively), Pete and Sam tried to get in with Big Narstie (aka Lady Leshurr).

However, in their message telling Big Narstie that Charlotte had vouched him, Pete nearly gave away that Rachel was actually a duo, as he referred to her as ‘us’ rather than ‘me’.

His message read: ‘Hey Big, how are you feeling? Just wanted to say that Charlotte told us she had done a TV show with you and was convinced that you’re genuine.’

Luckily for the pair, Towie star Pete realised his mistake at the last second and quickly changed ‘us’ to ‘me’.

‘Woah, woah, woah,’ he screamed. ‘No. Charlotte told me.’

Viewers watching at home were on the edge of their seats as they freaked out over Pete’s mistake.

‘I just screamed it’s ‘me’ not ‘us’!!!! Omg that was close #TheCelebrityCircle #thecircle,’ one fan watching at home tweeted.

‘The amount of times I’ve shouted at the telly when Pete+Sam nearly f**k their cover by saying “us” instead of “me”,’ said another.

One unimpressed viewer posted: ‘Not Pete and Sam playing such a good game all week and still almost throwing the WHOLE thing by saying ‘we’.’

Living for the drama, another viewer suggested: ‘The producers should just send it with their mistakes one time.’

Can you imagine the carnage?

Earlier in the episode, Pete and Sam were rejoicing as they correctly called out Mysterious Girl hit-maker Peter for being a catfish. Given the opportunity to block a player of their choice face-to-face, the pair were shocked as they were greeted by Geordie Shore star Charlotte.

While they genuinely thought it was Peter, they told Charlotte they had blocked her as they believed she had an alliance with Denise.

‘What absolute p****s,’ she screamed at the door as they left, before later revealing: ‘I’m not gonna lie it’s a kick in the ovaries or should I say Peter Andre’s balls that I’m leaving before the final, do you know how gut-wrenching that is.’

The Circle is available to watch via catchup on All 4.
