Ulrika Jonsson has hit out at Davina McCall’s controversial statement that the Sarah Everard case it is impacting ‘men’s mental health’.

It was confirmed last week that Sarah’s body had been found in woodland after she went missing while walking home from a friend’s house in Clapham a week previously.

In response to the news, Davina shared a post on Twitter that has been widely criticised, in which she said that ‘female abduction/murder is extremely rare’ and wrote that ‘this level of fear-mongering isn’t healthy’.

She later clarified her comments and stated she wasn’t victim blaming.

Speaking on today’s episode of Lorraine, Ulrika stated that she wasn’t happy with Davina’s tweets.

‘First of all, it is not fear-mongering, because this is happening,’ she began. ‘To say that it is rare is also incorrect. We know that domestic abuse is definitely not rare.

‘I am sure what she was trying to do was say let’s not forget that this is not all men but I don’t even think that is a conversation that needs to be had because I don’t think anybody has ever said that this is all men.

‘Men’s mental health is a separate issue to this.’

She continued: ‘I had some really interesting responses on my Instagram to my post and it wasn’t until I was scrolling down and a couple of them had said they had been gang-raped and attacked.

‘These were men that were leaving these messages for me and so that was really quite shocking. It is men who are fearing men, who aren’t fearing women, I wouldn’t have thought.

‘So men’s mental health is a very important issue but I think it is not one that has a place in this conversation.’

Sarah, 33, went missing while walking home from a friend’s flat in south London on March 3, and her body was found on March 10.

Scotland Yard said police have routinely been searching areas of London and Kent as part of the investigation.

Serving police officer Wayne Couzens, 48, has been charged with Ms Everard’s kidnap and murder.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV.
