Cheryl admits she can’t stop thinking about her friend Sarah Harding as she continues to battle cancer

The Girls Aloud singer was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and revealed the disease had advanced to other areas of her body.

In Sarah’s upcoming autobiography, Hear Me Out, Cheryl opened up about how she has coped with her former bandmate’s health ordeal.

In an extract from the memoir obtained by Glamour, Cheryl said: ‘The news of Sarah’s illness hit me so hard. Since that day, she’s been on my brain every waking hour – so much so that I feel like I want to be with her. Of course, that’s not possible.

‘Sometimes, she and I FaceTime, she sounds strong, and we can chat away happily for hours. Other times she’s just wiped out.’

Describing the disease as ‘unpredictable’, Cheryl then admitted: ‘Initially, I felt helpless. I struggled to find the right words to say when I spoke to her, and I didn’t know what to do or how to be.

‘Now I just want to be there for her in any way I can. She might want to cry or rant or even have a laugh, but wherever it is, just be there.’

Cheryl said she hopes Sarah has ‘no regrets’  about the way she lived her life, adding: ‘This illness would have happened to her regardless of how she chose to live her life.’

In the book, Sarah explained how a doctor told her in December that the ‘upcoming Christmas would probably be my last’.

Sarah added that she does not want an exact prognosis, and is focusing on being comfortable and as pain-free as possible.

The Promise singer wrote: ‘I’m trying to live and enjoy every second of my life, however long it might be. I am having a glass of wine or two during all this, because it helps me relax. I’m sure some people might think that’s not a great idea, but I want to try to enjoy myself.’

Sarah Harding’s autobiography, Hear Me Out, is released on March 18.
