Fiona Bruce has revealed that she left an Antiques Roadshow expert ‘horrified’ after bringing her doll collection in for valuation onto the show.

The presenter looked back on 13 years of hosting the BBC programme on The One Show, and revealed that her childhood collection had left the team less than impressed.

Speaking to hosts Michael Ball and Alex Jones, Fiona said that the moment came during her very first series on the programme.

‘I brought along these dolls that my dad, who travelled a lot when I was a child, had brought back from every country he had visited,’ she said. ‘I loved these so the editor said “why don’t you bring them along?”’

‘So I got them out of the attic and unpacked them in front of Hilary Kay – it’s the first time I’d seen them in 20 or 30 years and I was cooing about them.’

However, while Fiona was pleased to see the dolls, they weren’t worth as much as she had expected. Or anything at all, in fact.

‘Hilary, bless her, was absolutely horrified at these totally valueless things,’ Fiona said. ‘So I think maybe a tenner for one.’

Thankfully for Fiona, plenty of people have brought in valuable items during her time on Antiques Roadshow.

An Antiques Roadshow guest was recently left lost for words as her two necklaces were valued at a combined total of £23,000.

Another was stunned to learn the plate she thought was worth £400 was actually worth a huge sum, with expert Will Farmer praising it as one of the ‘best ever’ he had seen on the programme.

Meanwhile, Fiona also said she is crossing everything that Antiques Roadshow can film a normal series this summer as the UK eases out of lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The current series has been socially distanced and scaled back to keep guests and crew safe.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
