The new map for Season 6 of Fortnite is live now and it features multiple Lara Croft skins and a new single-player intro.

The latest season of Fortnite has already begun and it’s called Primal, with the island being transformed into a fantasy wilderness filled with animals to tame and a springtime theme.

To be honest, it’s not the most immediately compelling set-up the game has ever had, and some fans are already upset that the map hasn’t really changed that much. Especially after details of it leaked ahead of time last night.

Lara Croft and Raven from DC’s Teen Titans are the only licensed skins so far but there’s also an Easter chick and a lot of other original fantasy characters to unlock and play as. The strangest addition though is the promise of Brazilian football star Neymar Jr. later in the season.

The Season 6 update was up and running by early morning but the much touted single-player intro turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, as it’s very short and doesn’t involve any actual shooting.

There’s a bit of exposition from Jones and The Foundation, about having to save reality from collapsing, then you seal up a trio of portals and… that’s it really.

It’s well orchestrated – and the pre-rendered intro with all the licensed characters is fairly mind-blowing – but for anyone not steeped in Fortnite lore none of it makes any obvious sense and it all seems a bit pointless considering the game’s still the same old Fortnite afterwards.

The biggest change in terms of new features is wild wolves which you can tame and have fight alongside you, which obviously fits the whole primal theme. Bears, chickens, and frogs also feature prominently but it’s unclear whether they can be tamed as well.

What’s also big news is the return of the Pump Shotgun, which will be unvaulted along with the Revolver and available all across the map in loot drops.

Another major change is that magazine sizes have been greatly decreased for all guns, seemingly as part of the low-tech primal theme. Ammo was never really an issue before but as you can see, it will be now.

• Light Bullets: from 999 down to 500
• Medium Bullets: from 999 down to 500

• Shells: from 999 down to 150
