Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar reveals which character he wants to return and we need this to happen

Adrian Dunbar has called for Neil Morrissey to make a surprise Line of Duty comeback, and we need to make this happen.

The police drama is returning to BBC on Sunday for series six, with the AC-12 crew taking on another investigation into corruption in the force.

Ahead of this, the cast lifted the lid on what fans could expect from the new episodes, including who they would love to return to the fold.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk and other press, Adrian – who plays Ted Hastings – revealed he was hoping Neil would reprise his role as Nigel Morton.

‘I would really like to see Neil Morrissey’s character, Nigel, who’s still alive,’ he told us.

‘He’s still out there. He’s still in possession of some information, I’m sure of it.

‘And I’d really like to see him back because more than anything else, he’s probably the best entertainment officer that any group ever had. For that alone, you’d really want Neil to be on the job.

‘So you know, if you could put it out there, please…’

Well, you don’t need to ask us twice.

Fans were first introduced to Nigel – part of Tony Gates’ squad – in series one, with Kate (Vicky McClure) going undercover to try and get more information on their goings-on as part of AC-12’s wider investigation.

Nigel was last seen in series three, going up against Matthew ‘Dot’ Cottan – who was attempting to blackmail him in a bid to clear his own name in a probe into the elusive ‘Caddy’.

Despite viewers seeing Dot (Craig Parkinson) die at the end of that season, fans have been convinced that he will also somehow return.

Recalling the moment his character was killed off, Vicky continued: ‘It was strange, wasn’t it, when Craig left.

‘You know, Craig Parkinson was part of the show for the first three years, we was well on our way then, sort of got into our stride and then he went. Reading that in the script was like, “Oh my God, that’s… That’s huge.”

‘It’s one thing throwing poor Jessica Raine out of the window in ep one [season two] and Danny Mays and whatever but Craig had been in it a long time so yeah…

‘Nobody’s safe.’

A new trailer for the upcoming episodes has promised even more drama as the gang try to uncover the identity of the mysterious ‘H’, while also conducting an inquiry into the conduct of DCI Joanne Davidson – a senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case.

Speaking about the scenes, Adrian and Vicky warned that the first instalment kicks off with a huge shock.

Appearing on the Graham Norton Show recently, Adrian teased: ‘18 months have passed so the landscape has completely changed.

‘We are starting from a place that the audience will probably find a bit shocking at first.

‘Things and people have been moved around so the first episode is going to be one of those “head-wrecks” for the audience.’

What does it all mean?!

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait long to find out, as series six premieres over the weekend.

Line of Duty series six kicks off on Sunday, at 9pm, on BBC. Series one to five are available to catch up on BBC iPlayer.
