The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco doesn’t want her work as Penny being erased: ‘I was on that sitcom for 12 f**king years’

Kaley Cuoco has been flying high since The Big Bang Theory came to an end but the actress has made it clear she doesn’t want her sitcom past to be erased.

After 12 successful seasons on the hit sitcom, the actress wrapped her role as Penny in 2019 and then hit the ground running with her new series The Flight Attendant.

So much so, some critics even labeled the actress a ‘newcomer’ despite the fact she’s been in the industry since she was five-years-old.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press about the comment, the 35-year-old laughed: ‘It’s very funny to me because I’ve been called the newcomer recently, which is hysterical. All of a sudden, because I was like, “I’ve loved everything I’ve done”, they’ve erased the past that I had.

‘I’m like, “Does anyone remember I was on that sitcom for 12 f**king years, like six seconds ago?” Nope.’

The 8 Simple Rules star continued: ‘All of a sudden, they’re like, “Look at this newcomer on the scene”. And I’m like, “I’ve been here for 30 years!”’

Speaking about how some other stars might try to distance themselves from such a long-running role, the actress added: ‘People that are trying so hard to erase what got them here is wrong. I think you got to embrace it. I owe my whole career to The Big Bang Theory. I say that all the time.’

The Charmed star explained why she’s never feared being ‘pigeonholed’ by her time on the sitcom as she added: ‘There’s a misconception like people that are on shows for a long time get so worried about being ‘typecast’ but I used to laugh because if I’m typecast as the girl next door in a sitcom for the rest of my life then that’s the best thing that could ever happen to me.

‘Going into Flight Attendant, I was not trying to pretend Big Bang Theory never happened and I’m going to be this new actor. In fact, I actually thought I would do a sitcom again, I wasn’t against it. The flight attendant was just something that was the right project at the right time.’

Kaley takes on the dual-role of star and producer in her dramatic new series, The Flight Attendant.

The murder mystery drama sees her play a flight attendant (no guesses there) who wakes up in a hotel room next to a dead man and no memory of what happened. Eek.

The Flight Attendant lands on Sky One and NOW TV on March 19 in the UK, while it’s available to stream on HBO Max in the US.
