Phillip Schofield was left with a rather foul taste in his mouth after drinking horse milk live on today’s episode of This Morning.

After roving reporter Josie Gibson milked a horse and sampled the goods out on yesterday’s programme, it was Phil’s turn to step up to the plate – and spoiler alert, he wasn’t a fan.

The presenter kicked things off by giving the animal produce a whiff and immediately grimaced at its overpowering odour.

‘It has got an odd smell,’ he remarked.

‘It smells of horse,’ commented co-host Holly Willoughby, prompting Phil to clarify his remarks: ‘No, it sort of smells like salmon. It’s like fishy horse.’

He then psyched himself up to take the plunge and take a sip.

‘See, I don’t like milk at the best of times,’ Phil explained. ‘I drink oat milk.’

After taking a large glug of horse milk, the presenter grimaced and cringed.

‘I don’t like that,’ he said.

Describing the taste, Phil continued: ‘It is kind of coconutty but it is quite watery. It’s got a bit of an odd feel to it, a bit of a strange taste to it.

‘It’s got a bit of an after taste.’

‘Does it taste like milk?’ an intrigued Holly asked.

‘Not really,’ Phil replied. ‘I’m not into that. I’m sure there are lots of people who are.’

Thanks to its endless health benefits, horse milk is seeing a surge in popularity, but it looks like Phil won’t be jumping on the bandwagon.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
