This Morning got emotional today as Clodagh McKenna burst into tears as she spoke about her beloved mum.

The homesick chef was about to tell presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield what she was making in the kitchen later on in the show when the conversation turned to St Patrick’s Day and her home country of Ireland.

Phil revealed how he and his family had once driven from Cork to Killarney, prompting Clodagh to tell a story of her last trip home.

‘I remember the last time I went to Ireland and I got to the passport controls, it was just before the lockdown happened, I was going over to see my mum,’ Clodagh said.

She then gave a shout out to her mum, but was overcome with emotion and struggled to continue her anecdote.

Luckily, Holly was on hand to jump in and responded: ‘I know it’s tough.’

‘It’s days like today when you really think about them,’ she continued. ‘We’re alright and then we have a day where we’re meant to be with them and it’s even harder.’

Viewers rallied around Clodagh on social media and flooded with her with messages of love and support.

‘My heart goes out to you Clodagh,’ wrote one. ‘I’m missing my mum too! But I’m in Ireland and she’s in London. Breaks my heart I haven’t seen her in so so long.’

Meanwhile, another wrote: ‘Happy St Patrick’s day Clodagh, I just had a cry with you while you were blowing kisses to your mammy in Ireland, you must miss her so much! Keep doing what you’re doing girl we love you.’

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
